Instructor

Faraz Khan

Faraz Khan is a Princeton-based artist working exclusively in contemporary style Arabic calligraphy and design. He was an Artist in Residence at the Arts Council of Princeton for the year 2015 and a co-founder of Faraz Khan Art Studio, a space dedicated to grassroots American Islamic Art movement in Princeton, New Jersey. His technique embodies a collage of Arabic script and modern ideas while utilizing ink and acrylics as his medium and vibrant non-traditional colors and calligraphy styles. His work explores contemporary themes in Islamic and modern art along with a focus on the American Islamic art movement. Faraz also serves as an art advisor to the Center for the Middle East Studies, Rutgers University. His artwork was covered by the Huffington Post under the title “Warhol, Polluck...Khan? American Muslims in the Arts”. Faraz has collaborated on art projects with Warner Brothers Studio (Yup Hollywood!), Zimmerli Art Museum (Rutgers), Princeton University, Pulitzer Art Museum (St. Louis), New York University and dozens of local schools, hospitals, and universities. Last year, he partnered up with Shaukat Khanam Memorial Hospital in Pakistan - a charity-based project by the current Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.
