BEAUTY is in the Eyes of the ARTIST!

  • Arabic Calligraphy & Painting

Arabic calligraphy offers not only a beautiful art form but a proven nonclinical method to reduce stress and anxiety in practitioners. It is a great tradition to discover for the finger swiping, thumb-typing touchscreen and voice activation culture. Plus, painting has never been out of style.

  • Henna Design

If you are into henna, you will absolutely love this class! Henna, a popular art of the East is growing in its popularity in the West as well. You will learn to assemble the henna cone, apply proper techniques for holding the cone and going over curvatures of your hand. You will learn many regional henna designs.

  • Geometrical Patterns

Geometry is at the center of all things within nature. When we look at a flower, leaf, blade of grass, and cosmos there are patterns. Ancient masters discovered these patterns and built art as an adornment for dwellings. You will be given the tools to create geometrical works of art. It starts with grids, symmetry, and tessellations that serve as the foundation for Islamic geometrical patterns.

He was an Artist in Residence at the Arts Council of Princeton for the year 2015 and a co-founder of Faraz Khan Art Studio, a space dedicated to grassroots American Islamic Art movement in Princeton, New Jersey. His technique embodies a collage of Arabic script and modern ideas while utilizing ink and acrylics as his medium and vibrant non-traditional colors and calligraphy styles. His work explores contemporary themes in Islamic and modern art along with a focus on the American Islamic art movement. Faraz also serves as an art advisor to the Center for the Middle East Studies, Rutgers University. His artwork was covered by the Huffington Post under the title “Warhol, Polluck...Khan? American Muslims in the Arts”. Faraz has collaborated on art projects with Warner Brothers Studio (Yup Hollywood!), Zimmerli Art Museum (Rutgers), Princeton University, Pulitzer Art Museum (St. Louis), New York University and dozens of local schools, hospitals, and universities. Last year, he partnered up with Shaukat Khanam Memorial Hospital in Pakistan - a charity-based project by the current Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.

Architecture Instructor

Areej Sabzwari

An Architect and Urban Planner by profession, Areej paints Islamic calligraphy through a lens of modern approach and a poetic style. Her work is rooted in mahabbah (love), ikhlaas (sincerity), and shukar (gratitude) to our Creator. With a fusion of cultures as a Pakistani-American born in Areej Sabzwari - photoSaudi Arabia and brought up in the US, her collection embodies a message of oneness. Given her design background, Areej places an emphasis on concept before she proceeds with her artwork and further ornaments it with calligraphy. She currently works at an International architecture firm in Midtown Manhattan, resides in Central New Jersey with her family, and is actively involved in a new construction of a masjid in her community. Henna Instructor

Sehrish Mazhar

Sehrish bio Growing up, art has always been very close to my heart. Whether it was painting, drawing, photography, pottery, jewelry-making, or sewing, I was always involved in one project or another. For years, I juggled all these different art forms as I couldn't choose between them, because I truly loved them all equally. To me, it was as difficult as choosing a favorite child. Having limited free time between going to school full-time and working, I was forced to choose just one, which brought me to where I am today, 15 years later. Henna has always been yet another passion of mine. I started with simply doodling on myself, family, friends, and basically anyone who allowed me to use their skin as my canvas. I was intrigued by the many forms and styles that exist all over the world, and I loved to practice any chance I got. In it, I find comfort. I find a way to reflect my joy, love, sadness, anger, and fear into tangible forms of lines, dots, paisleys, and swirls. What I visualize is a reflection of my spirit and passion, not simply what is visible to the naked eye. As learning is a lifelong process, my aim is to perfect my skills and master new techniques. My inspiration for henna comes mostly from South Asian and Middle Eastern culture, architecture, and various art from all over the world. I am versed in Pakistani, Arabic, Moroccan, and Indian designs. Using only 100% natural and safe henna, I work free-handedly to create beautiful and intricate designs. My mission is to inspire others to chase their dreams, as henna is mine.

What are they Saying!

Designer, GHD Partners

Zahra Bukhari

The Princeton Islamic art classes were a very refreshing opportunity to be a part of a collective that values young Muslim artists and elevates their understanding and knowledge of Islamic art and design. Faraz Khan was a kind, patient and generous teacher who encouraged us to follow our intuition as artists, pushed us to strengthen our skills, and instilled a sense of pride for our Muslim identities.

Managing Partner, APEX Capital

Shomail Malik

Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience although they went in knowing nothing about calligraphy. Faraz's masterful style of teaching really engages people of all ages. What a great way to learn and also use the creative side of our minds! We loved it!

Faraz Khan’s artwork taught me that there are no limits to the beauty of Islamic Art. While Islamic calligraphy is beautiful and has been taught over centuries, Faraz Khan’s artwork has taught me that every individual has the ability to create beautiful work with their own spin on it

President Islamic Society of Central Jersey

Arif Patel

Faraz Khan is a talented and integral part of the local community. He shows his love through both his teachings and artwork. Faraz has a sincere passion and a special patience working with his students regardless of age and talent level. His work has inspired hundreds of students to pursue their love of art, calligraphy and knowledge!

  • The program looks amazing but is it real or hyped?

Great question! We have taught an in-person version of this program between 2015-17 at Princeton University and at Faraz Khan Art Studio, Princeton. We received rave reviews at that time and many of our students have gone on to become professional designers and artists. We have been teaching Islamic arts program since 2008 around Princeton and academia, specifically at liberal arts schools such as Emory University (Atlanta), Wesleyan (Conn), Fairfield, Trinity, Montclair and at ivy-league universities such as UPenn, Princeton, Yale, Columbia and Cornell. But those are big names and we do not want you to buy the "hype". Try a free 7-Day trial by yourself and then make a decision - no credit card info required.

  • How do we contact Faraz Khan?

You could submit an inquiry or send us an email via the contact page on www.FarazKhanArtStudio.com
